Easter Junior Tournament

Over three days of the Easter holidays some of the Islands most promising juniors battled it out in variable weather conditions at Ryde’s Playstreet Lane Club.

In the Mini Red event (Under 8’s) Euan Biggs, Fenella Stephenson and runner-up Jessica Green all performed creditably. However, Toby Trotman took his first title without dropping a game.

The mini-green (under 10’s) was won by Arthur Attrill, playing in the category above his age level. The runner-up Ptolemy Letchford pushed Arthur in their final match but was eased out 5-4, 4-1.

Tuesdays boys doubles event was eventually won by Adam Todd and Will Drake. Tom Lovell and Gabriel Gibson pushed them to a tight second set but were pipped into the runner up slot by Sol Ash and Charlie Bligh.

After a rain delayed start on Wednesday Adam Todd cruised to the under 16 title without dropping a set beating runner up Sol Ash in the deciding match.

The under 12 title was won comfortably by Will Drake. The real battle was for second place with Billy Backshall, Alex French and Ailsa Nuttall all tying with two wins. Ailsa however took the runner-up slot with better games difference.

The next junior tennis event will be the Isle of Wight County Press sponsored Junior Tennis Championships between 28-30 July 2016, again at Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
