As at the 19th October, the winter work has been started but the top dressing of sand and soil can not be applied until the lawns have dried out enough to take the weight of the machines.
Once that is down, hoop holes and boundaries will have to be remarked so with the current rainy weather it is likely to be a week or so (at least) before play can start again.
Our croquet pre-season meeting will be held on the afternoon of March 26th 2019. More details later.
A Croquet Quiz preceded by a light lunch will be held on Tuesday February 26th @ 1 p.m. Further details later.
All are invited to a Ploughman’s Lunch at 1pm followed by an afternoon of the card game Uno with tea and cake. You don’t need to play croquet to play Uno! Uno is easy to learn and very interactive.
Please contact Joan Grove (01983 882955) if you would like to come. The all inclusive cost is £5 per head.

A training course on the rules of Golf Croquet was run by Roger Barnacle on April 19th and 20th 2017. Fourteen members attended on the first day and all felt that their knowledge of the game had been greatly increased as a result. Following a written and practical exam the next day, Vernon Gibbs and Pam Sim were accredited as Golf Croquet referees. Ryde Lawn is very grateful to Roger for taking two days out of his busy schedule to run this course on the Island for our club. We all feel that our standard of play will increase as a result.
